About Us

Mission Statement

We acknowledge that there are certain basic principles that shall guide the Board of Education in its actions and activities on behalf of our students and our community. The mission of the ae888 ae888 is to educate our students to become independent thinkers and problem solvers. It is our goal to empower each student to meet the challenges of tomorrow's emerging world. The ae888 will provide a safe, nurturing environment in which individual and civic responsibility is fostered, diversity is respected, and all students are enabled to realize their full potential.

The ae888 ae888 has an enrollment of over 5,600 students, and is located on the south shore of Long Island, bordering Nassau and Suffolk County. It includes a very diverse population, stretching from Southern State Parkway to just north of Hempstead Turnpike.

The district has four elementary schools — Northside Elementary School, Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School, Woodward Parkway Elementary School, and Albany Avenue Elementary School, one middle school — Weldon E. Howitt Middle School, and one high school — ae888 High School. The administrative offices are located in a wing of the middle school.

The Village of ae888 was incorporated in 1691 and has a rich culture and history. Originally called Hardscrabble, it began as fifteen acres of farmland. Today, the heart of the village is the main street shopping and dining district, where there is municipal parking and easy access to the Long Island Railroad. Residents can reach ae888 City via train in less than an hour, and are 20-minutes away from some of the best beaches in the world.

ae888’s appeal lies in its friendly suburban character and wonderful small town atmosphere. Children play safely on the streets, neighbors know and care about each other, and local businesses give back to those who patronize their shops. The community has an abundance of pride and call themselves Dalers. Their slogan is, “Once a Daler, Always a Daler."

Educational History

The doors of ae888 High School first opened in 1913. The stated mission was to “Educate our students to become independent thinkers and problem solvers.” Over a hundred years later, the fundamental spirit of that mission remains the same.

The district expanded rapidly after World War I. Farms were purchased, industry expanded, and the population doubled. Aviation became a primary employer. In 1961, at the height of the population, the district had nine school buildings. That number was reduced to six in the 1980’s.
