Students at Saltzman East Memorial participated in the “Living History Museum” on Thursday, November 30th. Historical figures came to life with the push of a button and told visitors their stories.

This unique experience allowed students to learn about history in a new and interactive way. Each student chose a historical figure to research and portray for the museum exhibit. They spent weeks preparing for the event, creating costumes, props, and scripts to bring their chosen character to life. Visitors were able to walk through the museum, interacting with the students and their exhibits. Some of the historical figures represented included Harriet Tubman, Amelia Earhart, Martin Luther King Jr., and Albert Einstein.

The Living History Museum not only provided an opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and knowledge, but also allowed visitors to learn about important historical figures and their contributions to society. The event was a great success and a wonderful learning experience for all involved.

On Saturday, November 18th, twelve students from the ae888 ae888 participated in this year's P.E.A.K. Festival at Freeport High School. The P.E.A.K. Festival is the fourth-grade prelude to the Division 1 All County Music Festivals. P.E.A.K. provides excellent workshops focusing on choral singing, music concepts, All County level ensemble experience, skills, and techniques facilitated by a dedicated and talented staff of music professionals. Saltzman East Memorial music teacher Abigail Hesselton chaired the event with two other Nassau County teachers. She worked with the clinicians and volunteers behind the scenes to ensure the festival ran smoothly. Our fourth-grade students, accompanied by Mrs. Irene Smykowski from Saltzman East Memorial and Ms. Deanna Cupolo from Northside and Woodward Parkway, got to play ukuleles, participate in a musical escape room, learn about Australian Rhythm Sticks, and many other workshops! The day ended with a performance of every student and parent showcasing what they learned during the day. A big applause to these fourth-grade students, teachers, and parents on a fun and musical day!

The Wellness Committee at Saltzman East Memorial stepped up its charity game this fall. In addition to their usual food drive, they also launched the Turkey Trot Challenge. Excited students were tasked with bringing in food donations, and on November 9th, they kicked off recess with a heart-pumping run around the school field.
